New details have emerged in press accounts of the Afyonkarahisar shooting suspect’s statement to prosecutors. Reports say Arif Sefa Özdemir described entering a village towards Eskişehir and attempting to obtain the village head’s gun.
According to those accounts, he said he presented himself as an official from Ankara, but the request was refused. He also reportedly said other motorists mistook him for an official and he did not correct them. This does not establish any genuine official position.
The suspect cited a debt dispute in explaining the initial events. His account remains subject to judicial examination. He was remanded on November 6, and the reported escape incidents are part of the investigation.
