Demonstrators broke a piñata representing Emmanuel Macron’s head at Bordeaux’s Place de la Victoire on 31 October. Fake banknotes fell from the effigy.

The scene, recorded during a march against the cost of living, appeared in local and international coverage. It was a symbolic protest directed at the French president.

Demonstrations over economic conditions and government policies also took place elsewhere in France that day, with tensions between police and protesters reported in some cities.
