Different situations across cities
Some protests against living costs and government policies in Italy led to clashes. Son Dakika’s latest report describes unrest around Milan’s Duomo, tension near Bologna’s station and confrontations in Turin. Police used water cannon and tear gas in some locations.
The government response
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed respect for peaceful demonstrations while condemning attacks on security personnel and urging the opposition to reject violence. The new report also carries a strong condemnation from Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini. These statements represent government officials’ assessments.
Rome and the strike timetable
The CGIL-led march in Rome reportedly ended peacefully, and the union announced a national strike for November 20. Peaceful participation in Rome matters when distinguishing the character of different demonstrations. Protests in France and Belgium do not mean that demands and organisations are identical across countries.
What it means for readers
Meloni said Bologna station was closed as a precaution during the unrest. This does not establish that it remains closed or that transport has stopped throughout Italy. Passengers should check current operator notices before travelling. A strike announcement also does not itself confirm cancellation of any particular service.
