Fenerbahçe twice came from behind to defeat Liverpool 3-2 in Istanbul on Champions League matchday four. Their first victory of the league phase lifted them to five points.
Trey Nyoni opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 25th minute. İrfan Can Kahveci struck the woodwork before Mason Greenwood equalised with a free-kick in the 29th. The teams reached half-time level at 1-1.
Substitute Alexander Isak restored Liverpool’s lead in the 69th minute, but Archie Brown brought Fenerbahçe level again four minutes later.
Brown then supplied the cross for Vedat Muriqi to head home in the 79th minute, giving the hosts their first lead of the night. Ederson saved Virgil van Dijk’s header in the 84th minute to help protect that advantage.
Dirk Kuyt’s side held on for all three points. Liverpool suffered their first Champions League defeat of the season and remained on nine points.
