A verdict has been delivered in the case against suspended Gaziosmanpaşa mayor Hakan Bahçetepe. Istanbul’s 10th High Criminal Court sentenced him to six years and three months for bribery.

He was separately acquitted of illicit enrichment and laundering criminal proceeds. The court also ordered his release from prison under judicial supervision in the form of house arrest.

Bahçetepe had spent about 17 months in detention. His release does not mean acquittal on every charge. No information establishing that the verdict is final has been announced. The case was separated from the Aziz İhsan Aktaş investigation.
