A body recovered during the search

One of two people missing after floodwater swept away a car in Göçbeyli, Pendik, has been found dead. Son Dakika says the person’s identity had not been released and the other occupant remained missing. Habertürk’s updated report also records one body being recovered.

The background

Three people were in the vehicle; one escaped and was taken to hospital. AFAD, AKUT, firefighters, gendarmerie and neighbouring municipal teams joined the operation near the Istanbul-Kocaeli boundary. Son Dakika reports searches at three locations. The status of this incident should be distinguished from totals covering separate flooding incidents across Istanbul.

Safety information for readers

AFAD’s flood guidance advises against using flooded roads or bridges, walking in floodwater or attempting to cross it. Road surfaces may also have been damaged beneath the water. Check local warnings before travelling and use alternative routes where roads are closed. Entering the search area could also interfere with rescue operations.
