Ahmet Eşref Fakıbaba announced on 21 October that he had resigned from İYİ Party membership and his role as an Ankara MP. In a social media statement, he linked his party resignation to leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu’s request and cited political ethics for his decision to resign his parliamentary role.

Decision follows leader’s demand

Dervişoğlu had called for Fakıbaba to leave both the party and parliament after remarks about the “Terror-Free Turkey” process and his political identity. Fakıbaba first said during the day that he intended to resign, then issued his written announcement.

Differences over constitutional proposals

Fakıbaba had taken a different position from the party leadership by supporting work on a new constitution and the Mecca Agreement. He had also expressed support for the peace process and argued for a new civilian constitution.

The announcement followed those political disagreements and referred to both his party membership and parliamentary role.
