Fifteen of 17 suspects brought before an Istanbul judgeship in a money-laundering investigation were remanded in custody; two were released under judicial supervision. Those remanded include Ömer Sarıgül, Aylin Kotil and journalist Murat Ağırel.
Basis of the investigation
According to DHA reporting, two complainants alleged suspicious transfers through domestic and overseas companies. Reports mention an €80 million contract, €100 million in transfers and a promise concerning a €1 billion fund. These figures relate to different allegations and should not be added together as an established loss or seized sum.
Emir Sarıgül’s position
Emir Sarıgül reportedly surrendered to police with his lawyer and was undergoing statement procedures. That does not place him among the 15 covered by this remand decision.
Why distinctions matter
Allegations and decisions must be assessed individually for each suspect. Remand is not a conviction; the outcome depends on proceedings and assessment of evidence.
