Snow, ice and strong winds disrupted travel in eastern Turkey’s highlands. Highway crews rescued 14 lorries stranded at Sahara Pass on the Ardahan-Şavşat road following snowfall on the evening of November 5.

Snow at Van’s mountain passes

Snow also covered the Artos and Erek mountains in Van. Son Dakika reported more than 10 centimetres at Karabet Pass on the Van-Bahçesaray road, where poor visibility forced some heavy vehicles to wait.

Road crews remained on standby and gendarmerie officers warned drivers to carry chains. Conditions can change quickly; the rescue report does not establish that every section remained open throughout the day. Travellers should check current road information before departure.
