MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli described a proposal for 100 provinces and 1,000 districts in a Türkgün interview. It envisages adding 19 provinces and 78 districts.

He listed population, development potential, geography, access to services and strategic position among the criteria. He did not name the districts proposed for provincial status.

Bahçeli said legislation could be brought forward later. The announcement does not mean Türkiye’s administrative map has already changed or that particular districts have been declared provinces.
